If you get a delegate list before you attend, study it. Know who’s going to be there and what you are going to say. Practice your “elevator pitch” in the car on the way to the venue and dress appropriately for the occasion.
2. Be Present
If you have a chance to go to a networking event, do it. Try not to second guess the prospective outcome, you never know who might be there. Also it’s vital to be in the room mentally giving people your full attention with a firm handshake and strong eye contact.
3. Be Positive
Nobody likes a moaner. Avoid negativity at all costs – people are not interested in your troubles and will not be predisposed to use your services or recommend you. Bring a good news story to the event and be prepared to listen more than you speak. Oh and smile please (people will wonder why).
